Emeka Anokwuru has an indepth knowledge of the travel and tourism industry in Nigeria. 

Over the years, he worked in prominent media houses such as The Mail, The Nigerian Observer, The Post Express, Anchor, Traveller's Weekend Magazine now (African Travel Quarterly Magazine) as Editor, New Age Newspapers, and The SUN.

He is versatile, a publisher, outspoken, witty, a team player, a great motivator and widely travelled. He is a public commentator and an accomplished tourism writer in Nigeria. Later he moved over to the travel press and also became their chairman.

From June, 2020, when the Coronavirus scourge must have abated, the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) will become operational, making the continent the world’s largest free trade area involving 55 countries with a population of 1.27 billion people, and a combined GDP of $2.6 trillion. The development is expected to increase trade among African countries that is currently put at a lowly 16 per cent.

Ethiopian Airlines, the largest Aviation Group in Africa and SKYTRAX Certified Four Star global airline has won 2018 Best Airlines in Africa Award for the 7th year in a row from African Airlines Association (AFRAA). The award was given on November 27, 2018 in recognition of its exceptional financial performance at the 50th high profile African Airline Association Annual General Assembly in Rabat, Morocco.

A film, Sweet Revenge, produced by a Nigerian-Canadian film director, Pascal Atuma,   has won this year’s Kevin Hart’s North American Film Competition.  A total of 654 films were submitted for the short films competition. A jury made up of Kevin Hart’s comedy outfit, Laugh Out Loud; Lionsgate, and Just For Laughs team picked the best 10. Still, Pascal Atuma’s Sweet Revenge made the top 10m list.  

 

The desire of people in West Africa is to commute with ease from one part of the coast to the other, for business or leisure. And the founding fathers in the region endorsed this by embarking on different integration schemes to foster cooperation and development among member states; the most important among all being the Free Movement Protocol. In May 1979, ECOWAS member States adopted their first protocol relating to the Free Movement of Persons, Residence and Establishment.

Every year, Accra Weizo holds in Ghana as a forum to promote seamless travel in West Africa.  For this year’s event, the Ghana Tourism Authority(GTA), in collaboration with the organizers of Weizo, arranged a 3-day familiarization tour for delegates to Greater Accra, Eastern and Volta Regions. On June 19, 2018 a team of Travel Writers from Nigeria, left Lagos by road in a chartered bus operated by ABC Transport en route to Ho, capital city of the Volta Region. After an 8-hour journey, we arrived Ho, and checked into Chances Hotel.

ARAN holds 3rd AGM in Abuja

The Artefacts Rescuers Association of Nigeria ( ARAN), has elected new officers during its 3rd annual general meeting in Abuja, that will run the affairs of the association in the next three years.

One of the candidates who contested for the position of president, Chief Hyacinth Odu, willingly stepped down for Mr. Obalosa Bamidele Louis to be elected unopposed. He was unanimously voted in as president by members and Board of trustees while Chief Hyacinth Odu was immediately appointed as member Board of Trustees.

Plateau ready for 2018 Carnival

Barring last minute hitches, plans are on to host the second edition of Plateau State carnival in Jos, which is one of the projects by the government to rekindle domestic tourism  and bring back tourists to the city. The carnival with the theme: ‘One People' is set to rock the city of Jos in May, with tourists and visitors expected to come from all parts of the country.

Trump Deported More Nigerians in 2017

President Trump’s “shithole” commentary on immigrants from unspecified countries in Africa, as well as those from Haiti and El Salvador, may have taken the country by a storm, but the numbers from his administration are beginning to reflect that sentiment.

In the year after Trump took office, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has reported a drop in total number of overall “removals”—except for African migrants who have seen a spike in the number of people sent back home.

Even though overall removals dropped to 226,119 in 2017 from 240,255 in 2016, the number rose for Africans—in many cases, more than doubling from the previous year. The fiscal year data runs to Oct. 5 in each year.
